Print Pattern Collection 1: Nostalgia
Bright cloudless blue skies, tropical green on green everywhere, amidst low level colonial buildings that were once military barracks and chapels. Nestle along these hills are flora native to the sunny isle city of Singapore, Iām in awe by the fact that I have stumbled on these pretty Butterfly Pea plants trailing amongst the greenery that is tropical rainforest growth.
This really sparked memories of tea time in childhood days where we would gather as siblings around the kitchen table and have rice and coconut desserts called Kuehs. In particular the Kueh Salat is a Nonya (or Peranakan) sticky rice dessert that is coloured using the Butterfly Pea florals, and topped with a custard made with coconut milk and scented with pandan leaves, something like what we call, Kaya. Working on this collection has evoked endearing childhood memories and sweet times (pun intended)ā¦
