Starting our Art Print Shop Journey
I've always wanted to be an artist! I've dreamt of creating and selling art as a young person, I loved art classes in school and it was one of the subjects that I did pretty well in. (This is turning out to be more of a flash back than I expected)
Of course like any young person I did what seemed the sensible thing and had a tertiary education, graduated with a Bachelors in Accountancy, did work as an auditor (gasp!) for 3 years before I left in search of more meaning than long hours and work-trips away from family.
It was around that time I started planning my own wedding and got into design wedding invitations with a good friend of mine. But a couple of years later, when I started a bridal business with my sister, that I got my chance in creating art! I was just re-discovering watercolour and painting again, and picked up modern calligraphy (AFTER my own wedding, how ironic), and I took a course in Adobe Illustrator, and got down to designing several Wedding invitation suites to offer to brides alongside couture designer wedding gowns that we were bringing in for brides in Singapore.
That business took off and it was amazing to see some of my designs being used by actual couples! In real life! I even got the opportunity to design some custom invitations, which I loved! I loved painting and drawing amazing venues I've never been to, many many florals, and even cute menus.
With the bridal business picking up so quickly over 5 years, I had little energy and space left to work pre-designed invitations, let alone work on custom designs. I took a pause on the whole invitations side of things and after a couple of years, decided to pivot to working on my art full time!
It was A LOT scary, exciting but scary, to start an art business from scratch! I picked up a course on Surface Pattern Design, with renown Australian artist Cass Deller, and started my own print and pattern library where brands can shop for beautiful tropical nature inspired patterns for their products. And I hope that one day these patterns can be seen in the wild!
But right now with a website up and still building my pattern library, I chanced upon the wonders of drop shipping service that can create quality Art reproductions and ship them for me! I can’t rave enough about it! While I have been working with printers, paper and have knowledge around printing reproduced art, as a mom of a high energy 7year old with an infant on the way, I didn't relish the idea of having inventory and navigating logistics of shipping and delivery.
I have been researching non-stop on various drop shipping platforms for art prints, and have finally settled on one. Now we are finalising how to integrate the third party drop ship service and ensuring a smooth delivery of high quality art prints around the world. These are all reproductions of my original watercolour art works, on high quality museum archival grade matte paper so that the art prints last for many years to come. There will be a selection of tropical wild floral pieces in my signature gestural style, as well as watercolour abstracts!
